GCSE Geography students from St Mary’s School for Girls, Colchester, spent a sunny weekend in Surrey studying the River Tillingbourne in preparation for their upcoming Controlled Assessment.
The girls carried out a pilot study on infiltration rates and measured the width, depth and velocity of the water at five different sites along the river’s course.
‘This outdoor field work is a crucial element of the girls’ GCSE,’ said Mrs Sarah Wilding, Head of Geography, who accompanied the students. ‘They have learnt valuable techniques and collected data that they will use in their Controlled Assessment.’
