Civic leaders from across the Midlands were able to find out more about the modern facilities and life at a leading independent school on a visit to Solihull.
Warwickshire mayors and council chairmen were invited by the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Joe Tildesley, to join him on a tour of the 454-year old co-educational school in Warwick Road.
The party, which was welcomed by the Headmaster David E J J Lloyd, Chairman of the Governors Mark Hopton, and Solihull’s Senior Management Team, was told about the plans for a new £4.5m state-of-the art Sixth Form Centre opening in September 2015.
Heads of School, Lauren Buchan and Tom Griesbach, and Deputy Heads, Charlotte Beesley and Harry Morgan, guided the visitors around the modern buildings including the David Turnbull Music School, George Hill Building with its new classrooms, and the Denis Tomlin Archive Room. The group enjoyed lunch in the Alan Lee Pavilion.
Cllr Tildesley said, ”We had an enthralling time meeting Solihull’s staff and pupils and viewing the superb facilities in what I hope will become an annual visit. The head boys and girls were fantastic guides and are clearly very proud of their school.”
Solihull is one of the Midlands’ highest achieving schools, with its GCSE pupils achieving a record-breaking 77 per cent pass rate at A* and A grades last year and 88 per cent of its A-Level pupils winning places at the universities of their choice.
