A creative pupil at a Colwyn Bay school has had a piece of writing published in a prestigious book.
Sydney Johnson, a Year 8 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, received praise after her poetry was selected for publication in the Young Writers’ Anthology, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The 13 year-old received a certificate recognising this achievement at Rydal Penrhos’ end of term Prize giving Assembly, which was held on Wednesday, April 23.
This is the latest in a long line of successes for Sydney, who was part of a team of three that reached the regional finals of the Rotary International Youth Speaks competition.
Acting Head Roger McDuff, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and one that Sydney should be very proud of.
“She is a very dedicated pupil and this comes across in not only her work inside the classroom, but in her extra-curricular activities too.
“To have a piece of writing showcased in such a prestigious publication really is a sensational effort and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled for Sydney.”
Young Writers aims to encourage young people to engage in creative writing, and they have worked with schools, parents and young writers by holding competitions, providing free resources and running specially designed creative writing workshops.
