A former accountant who became an overnight signing sensation and finalist on Britain’s Got Talent is to take part in a very musical evening being hosted by a North East school.
Christopher Stone found fame in 2010, after the mild mannered accountant from Harrogate wowed the judges with his powerful performance of Maria from West Side Story.
As he now prepares to make his mark in the West End, the singer is lined up to perform at the ‘Night at the Musicals’ event being hosted by Polam Hall School on July 10. Pupils from the independent day and boarding school in Darlington will also be taking part; songs from popular musicals will be included such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and Sweeney Todd.
The event will take place at the school’s Liddiard Theatre, and has been choreographed by Rachel Harrison, a teacher at the school. Christopher Stone will also be taking part in a pre-show workshop with the school’s vocal ensemble before he performs on the night. “I look forward to every performance I do, but performing with up-and-coming talent is always a joy. I think performance in schools is vital. No matter what career you intend to pursue, performance through music, drama and dance promotes confidence and creativity among children of every age.
“Confidence is important if you’re attending an interview for a job or addressing a boardroom of co-workers and the skills you learn through the arts will aid you for your whole life.”
Caroline Law, director of music at Polam Hall, who attended Chetham’s School of Music with Christopher Stone, said: “I was so proud to see Christopher reach the final of Britain’s Got Talent and I’m delighted to have him performing at Polam Hall.
35 students from the school will be taking part in the event, ranging from ages 11 through to 18.
The show starts at 6.30pm. Tickets can be bought from the school office and are priced at £5 for adults, £2 for concessions and are free to under 16s.
Polam Hall is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for boys and girls aged between three and 18 years old. It has been based at its site in Darlington since 1854 and prides itself on maintaining its traditional values and rich heritage while being able to offer pupils the strongest possible skills for the future.
