Tuesday 27th September 2016
9.00am – 4.45pm
In an age of instant digital communication, promoting positive mental wellbeing in children has become a priority for parents and staff in UK schools. Malvern College will be addressing how the stress and strain of our modern era may affect learning and progress at school at a conference on Mental Health and Wellbeing that will be held at Malvern on 27th September 2016.
In association with Clearminds Education, an organisation committed to enhancing the mental health of children, the conference will use seminars and workshops to help staff teaching pupils of preparatory school age, identify and deal with the signs and symptoms of developing mental health concerns in children at school.
“Ensuring that pupils at Malvern College receive pastoral care of the highest quality is integral to our educational purpose. Our staff are acutely aware of the myriad challenges that face children today in this early phase of their development. We are keen to help our closely connected preparatory schools in all they do to support the mental health of their pupils, particularly in their transition to senior school,” says Conference Director, Tom Newman, who is also a Housemaster at Malvern.
“We will focus on providing practical advice and tools that can be employed to enhance pupils’ emotional wellbeing and will offer information on sources of support.”
An introduction to children’s wellbeing and mental health will be given by keynote speakers and a series of workshops will allow closer discussion of the subject with the experts.
Speakers from Malvern College include: Tom Newman, Sarah Angus, Deputy Head: Pastoral and Penny Bijl, Head of Safeguarding and Individual Pupil Wellbeing. Speakers from Clearminds Education are: Tana Macpherson-Smith, CEO, Debbie Channing, Director of Parenting and Training for ClearMinds Education and Zelna Lauwrens, author, speaker, psychologist and child motivation expert.
