Estate and lettings agent, Romans, invited the residents of Sunningdale, Berkshire to share their best photo of the village to be in with a chance of winning one of many generous prizes on offer.
The public voted in their thousands for their favourite photo and a judging panel made up of the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Cllr Andrew Jenner, photographer Jon Bradley and local reporter Rhodri Andrews had the responsibility of choosing the winners.
Sixteen year old Victoria McGee, a student at The Marist was absolutely delighted to win the under 18s category with her photograph: ‘The House by the Lake’. Victoria has won an annual Merlin Pass for a family of four and £250 of Amazon vouchers for her school.
Mayor Andrew Jenner commented on the judging process: “We feel the ones we’ve chosen really identify Sunningdale and its architecture. Although there were a lot of high quality entries ‘The House by the Lake’ is superb, it really stood out to me and I love the definition in the clouds.”
Victoria who feels very honoured to have won said: “I chose to take this photo as I was walking around Virginia Water lake and I found the scene very relaxing and calming”.
Head of Art at The Marist, Rachel Ellwood commented “Pupils use digital photography, including the application of Photoshop and the recent addition of a new darkroom allows pupils to stretch their understanding of wet room printing gaining valuable experience from exploring this medium. The GCSE and A level courses are highly popular, offering pupils the ability to develop their photography creatively and technically; as well as through practical understanding and development of project themes and their critical analysis”.
Headteacher at The Marist Senior School said: “I am absolutely delighted for Victoria’s success. She is a very talented young woman, an accomplished photographer and a worthy winner of such an accolade”.
