The quiz team of Lord Wandsworth College were crowned as champions of their region in the Schools’ Challenge. The national competition has been running since 1978 and is the national general knowledge contest for schools in the UK, using the same rules as University Challenge.
In a tight game, the LWC team eventually prevailed over Bedales last week by 600 – 570. The game was interrupted twice by the national organiser Sue Sims, after she recognised that the answers on the question master’s sheet were erroneous. Proceedings were stopped and LWC were awarded points for correct answers, resulting the in a narrow victory.
Captain Max Wright was on top form all evening but the excellent contributions of Imy Potts, India Mayhook-Walker and Molly Wilson throughout the campaign marks this team out as the best that LWC has produced.
This is only the second time that LWC have won the region and they proudly lifted the shield, brand new last year, to add the college’s name to that of RGS Guildford.
