Kent College is launching an ambitious development project to match its ambitious ethos, with plans for outstanding new sporting facilities on the school site in Pembury giving the girls greater opportunity to grow and develop beyond the classroom. The proposed facilities include a second sports hall and all weather pitch which will transform fitness and sport, bringing benefits to every pupil aged 3 – 18.
The commitment to the new sports facilities will see an expansion on the schools successful academic and creative development picture which has been achieved over the past five years. The new project will enhance the site at Kent College and allow every girl the opportunity to find a sport they love and to excel as talented sportswomen both now and into their futures.
To continue raising awareness for this important transformational project, Kent College have kick started a Fit for Life Appeal including a Sports Festival which will run from 12th – 16th May. A whole week of celebrations are lined up including a parachute jump over the school grounds by the Senior school Deputy Head ,Tony Kirk-Burgess, a whole school giant outdoor Zumba class, and pupils will have the opportunity to pledge their own sporting challenges whether it’s walking the dog every evening or playing a game of tennis twice a week.
Inspirational sporting champions are supporting the Appeal. Olympic Silver medallist and British badminton player, Gail Emms MBE joins the students on Wednesday 14th for a badminton workshop and talk about her successful career both on the court. On Thursday 15th the girls will be joined by Bonita Norris, the youngest person to have stood at both ‘tops of the world’, for an interactive climbing workshop and presentation. Completing the week on Friday 16th May will be British Lions and Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas, who played professional rugby for 12 years. Gareth has established himself as one of the most iconic and respected figures in world rugby. The diverse range of sporting celebrations during this week will highlight the enthusiasm behind the Fit for Life Appeal.
Construction for the sporting development will begin in July 2014 with completion anticipated for the academic year 2015/2016.
Senior School Headmistress, Sally-Anne Huang: “Ultimately, it’s about the girls. Kent College’s developments, ethos and vision are all directed and stimulated by providing the best possible education for the girls, to prepare them for successful and fulfilling Lives. Kent College goes from strength to strength. We have come a long way, now we are poised to move forward again.”
