Jana Oliver, an American author visited St Mary’s School for Girls, Colchester, on Monday 21 October to talk to young writers about her latest book and her life as a writer.
The Year 9 students heard about Jana’s career to date and about the things that inspired her to write her latest novel, Briar Rose, a dark and twisted re-telling of Sleeping Beauty. Jana also spent time with a Year 10 art group and answered questions on creativity, thinking in a visual way, the development of ideas and the importance of research and resource.
Jana commented: “‘I had a truly enjoyable day at St Mary’s, chatting with brilliant young writers and answering their many astute questions.
“I wish all the girls great success now, and in the future.”
