Bedford Modern School students and siblings Emma and Robert Baxter have been chosen to join the elite Swifts European hockey tour in April. Comprising selection from independent schools in England, the tour will see Emma playing as part of the girls’ team and Robert as part of the boys’ team competing in matches in Holland and Belgium.
“My brother and I were nominated by Bedford Modern School because we both play in the first team at club level with Blueharts in Hitchin, the School first hockey teams and have attended High Performance Assessment Camps. It will be really interesting to meet new players and play matches against top level European hockey players,” said 15-year old Emma.
16-year old Robert is also a member of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sports Excellence (AASE) Programme providing structured training and development routes across a number of sports for talented young athletes who have a real chance of excelling in their chosen sport.
“It’s a great honour to be selected for the Swifts tour and have an opportunity to play abroad,” said Robert who is also part of Bedford Modern School’s Performance Programme working to a bespoke fitness regime.
Heather Gilbert, Head of Girls’ Hockey at BMS said: “Both Emma and Robert are well deserving of this fantastic opportunity and I hope that they have an experience that will further their hockey careers in the future.”
Guy Marsh, Hockey Coach at the School added: “Their selection for this tour is thoroughly deserved, given their technical hockey ability, but also their commitment to training and playing for Bedford Modern School throughout their time at the School. They will both gain significant experience from this European tour.”
