The catering team at Bedford Modern School unveiled a huge celebration cake on Wednesday 26 March, marking the School’s 250th anniversary.
Measuring 2.16 metres long and 1.12 metres wide, it took 27 hours to make, contained 36kg each of flour, sugar and margarine, and 576 eggs, along with 30kg of jam and 88kg of icing; it took six men to carry it as it weighed a total of 259kg!
Jacqueline Henry, general catering and hospitality manager said: “A request for the celebration cake was made by the deputy head, and was a challenge set by our headmaster. We like a challenge and so we rose to the occasion!”
As part of the celebrations, a number of events are planned, including the production of With Wings as Eagles, a specially commissioned play detailing the history and events that have shaped BMS across the last two and a half centuries.
