Bedford Modern School staff and students are celebrating excellent examination results for the second week running following last week’s best-ever A Level results. Students enjoyed success across a broad range of subjects with 98 per cent of GCSE grades awarded between A*-C compared to a national average of 68.1 per cent with 40 of Bedford Modern School’s 152 students obtaining straight A*/A grades.
The School, building on 250 years of providing the highest quality education, saw 91 per cent of grades achieved between A*-B with 70 per cent of grades at A*/A grade compared to a national average of 21.3 per cent. Overall, a pleasing 33 per cent of grades were A* with a clean sweep of 100 per cent of the Year 11 girls and boys achieving both Maths and English at grades A*-C.
With a common sense of being involved, being supported and being successful within an unpretentious and embracing environment, four of Bedford Modern School’s top performers achieved straight A* grades including the best female student, Charlie Rex and the best male student, Simon Whitaker each securing 11A* grades and an A in Additional Maths.Labib Choudhry obtained 10A* grades whilst Zakir Khokher was delighted to obtain 10A* grades together with an A in Additional Maths.
“When I ripped open the envelope and first saw the results I couldn’t believe it.I am still shocked and amazed! I would like to thank all my teachers for believing in me when, sometimes, I didn’t believe in myself.Being involved in the School’s Combined Cadet Force and taking part in school sport has provided me with an alternative outlet to my academic studies. I am now going to study Chemistry, Physics, Geography and Maths in the BMS Sixth Form and intend to become a Geologist,” said Charlie.
Simon Whitaker added: “I am still shaking after reading my results. I wasn’t sure how I had done but now I am both delighted and relieved. Everyone has been so supportive and, although at times, it has been like trying to juggle lots of things at once, I have tried to balance my studies with my other interests which are drama, music and rowing and I played the lead role in the School’s production of Miss Saigon earlier this year.I joined BMS in Year 5 and love everything about the School and am now looking forward to starting in the Sixth Form in September.”
Headmaster, Michael Hall, said: “Despite all the external pressures of changes to the GCSE’s, I am immensely proud of our Year 11 students; they have created a wonderful platform for themselves to achieve their dreams in the Sixth Form and beyond!”
