On Wednesday 17 May, senior pupils from The Marist School in Sunninghill were given a real insight into setting up an app-based business from two founding members of ‘EspressGo’.
Edoardo Cannarsa, Managing Director, and Avi Mavadia, Marketing Director, visited the school to give a talk about their new business with pupils given an exclusive opportunity to explore the app before its official launch date. EspressGo is a new cashless payment app that allows you to pre-order quality coffee from London’s best coffee shops.
During the talk, which was organised as part of the school’s series of ‘sMARteas’ events, Edo and Avi spoke about the inspiration behind EspressGo and shared with pupils the challenges and opportunities that they faced whilst creating the business. Sharing advice such as “it’s really important to understand your brand” and “appreciate the different skill sets within your team”, pupils were left inspired and motivated by the talk.
Following the talk, Mrs Elizabeth Guinney, organiser of the school’s sMARteas events said: “Edo and Avi gave us a brilliant insight into the challenging journey involved when turning an idea into a marketable product. Pupils were brimming with questions at the end of the talk, and with topics from funding to competition, Edo commented that it was more intimidating than pitching to business angels!
“In the current educational climate, educators can feel obliged to focus on cramming pupils full of knowledge to survive the exam treadmill. Our sMARteas events aim to redress this balance by giving pupils a chance to explore a massive variety of issues in the wider world and enjoy learning just for learning sake.”
