Preparatory School pupils embraced their Welsh heritage as part of their St David’s Day celebrations. Rydal Penrhos held a special assembly to commemorate the occasion on Thursday 1st March.
Teacher Jude Pyves kicked-off proceedings with an introduction on the history of Wales’ Patron Saint. This was followed by a rendition of the iconic Welsh hymn Calon Lân from the whole school, before year 3 took the stage for a song in their native language regarding different emotions.
Led by Daisy Yates, year 5 then took turns outlining what they liked best about being Welsh, while year 2 also made a contribution in the form of traditional Welsh dancing.
A prayer was read out in both Welsh and English by Mrs Pyves and Grace Watkins to close out the assembly, which was centred around helping each other with the small things.
Year 1 have also been very busy and came dressed in Welsh-themed hats that they had made especially for the occasion.
Prep School Deputy Head Alison Hind said: “St David’s Day is a vitally important occasion in the principality, and at Rydal Penrhos we encourage pupils to both learn more and celebrate the life of our patron Dewi Sant.
“It was fantastic to see a variety of different year groups taking part, and the rendition of Calon Lân left each member of the prep school community bursting with national pride.”
