A group of Royal Navy CCF cadets from The Leys travelled to Hampshire for a taste of naval life, culminating in leadership training at HMS Collingwood.
They spent a night on HMS Bristol and toured HMS Diamond and HMS Victory before their visit to the Royal Navy Leadership Academy (RNLA) where instructors tested their mettle on the Academy’s Low Ropes Course.
The pupils split into groups to tackle obstacles such as the ‘spider’s web’ which involved traversing through a series of ropes without touching them, and balancing on wires, both impossible to complete without excellent teamwork.
Flight Lieutenant Stuart Sale, who supervised the cadets, said: “This experience teaches them positive communication and how to fit into a team. They can apply the principles of leadership that they’ve been taught and they can push themselves, taking risks and making decisions, communicating and solving the problem.”
