Taunton School Student Awarded £1000 SportsAid Funding

Year 10 student Georgia McGovern from Taunton School has been awarded £1000 SportsAid funding after being nominated by Volleyball England, in recognition of her potential in the sport for the future.

With former recipients including Sir Chris Hoy, Ellie Simmonds OBE, Jessica Ennis-Hill CBE, Tom Daley and Dame Sarah Storey, Georgia is part of a very select group of British athletes.

The award follows Georgia’s recent nomination to SportsAid by Volleyball England and is to help with the cost of her sport this year in recognition of her commitment and potential for the future. The SportsAid award in partnership with the GLL Sports Foundation supports talented athletes across the UK helping them reach their potential and achieve sporting success.

Georgia said: “I feel extremely privileged to have received the SportsAid Award and it will really help me to go further in my sport. To see how it’s helped sporting heroes such as Chris Hoy and Jessica Ennis-Hill makes me feel very fortunate to be selected for the Award”.

Georgia, from Henlade near Taunton, got into Volleyball whilst living in California, where she captained her team to a gold medal at the US Junior Girls’ National Volleyball Championships. Georgia currently plays volleyball for Taunton Juniors, the South-West, Bristol Volleyball Club, as well as England Under 19s and under 17s. Georgia also plays hockey, netball and tennis at Taunton School.
